EdOps Journal is dedicated to exploring ideas for improving the teaching of critical thinking in independent high schools.

We believe that achieving this improvement will require schools to:

  1. Recognize that adherence to ideological principles is incompatible with the seeking of truth
  2. Examine and rout out all of the ways in which student assessments can be gamed
  3. Recognize that helping students gain admission to elite colleges does not map perfectly onto the goal of teaching for thinking. There are aspects of the college process that encourage rushed “coverage” of material and shallow learning
  4. Evaluate and improve not just the products of students’ work but the processes that lead to this work
  5. Recognize that teaching skills, procedures and facts, while important, is not the same thing as teaching for thinking
